2007 music gig, West Beach
Best of the west hits West Beach Devon.
The long awaited paddle4relief live music event featuring some of the ‘best acts in the west country’ was held on Friday 9th November at West Beach Bar Woolacombe.
Acts included some of the west country’s finest singer/songwriters including Hazel Sturt (the vocal style of Joni Mitchell and the chords of Nick Drake), Douglas E Powell featuring Nicky Green (his poetry in music really hits you on your first listen) and the highly acclaimed Pete Bruntnell ( the kind of songs that led Rolling Stone to hail him as ‘one of England’s best kept musical secrets’.
The show kicked off at 8pm and ended at12am…ish.
Paddle4relief was purposely set up by Tim Tanton of Braunton within weeks of the Asian Tsunami to help empower the survivors of Aragum Bay - a village close to his heart and a previous surfing holiday - and create a sense of ‘normality’ back into their lives. Tim and the paddle4releif team have raised almost £10,000 in the past 3 years.
This music event was the second largest paddle4relief event of 2007 following the successful community ‘surf paddle’ from Saunton to Croyde and back in August.
Thanks to peoples generous donations on the night and a contribution from West Beach Bar takings from the evening we successfully raised………, and a big thank you goes out to all who attended. |
